This page is the price anchor for the whole site. Everything that follows — what an FOB number covers, what a container lands at in your market, and the order and payment terms — hangs off it. The product specifications behind each grade sit in the product range and the packaging tiers that move the figure sit in the packaging pillar.

2. Why the grades cost different amounts
The difference between grades is a yield difference.
This is the part most supplier pages leave out, and it is the whole reason a premium grade carries a premium price.
Higher grades are screened harder: the material runs through three to five screening passes instead of one. That removes more fines and loses more raw material, and it returns a cleaner briquette.

Screened harder · more fines removed · lower yield Screened less · fewer fines removed · higher yield
A higher grade is not a different raw material or a marketing tier; it is the same shell run through more screening, with more of it thrown away as fines. That lost material is what you are paying for, and it is why the gap between grades is stable rather than negotiable.
3. What moves the price, in order
Ranked by how much they move the figure, the drivers are: grade, packaging tier, shape and size, volume. The first two account for most of the spread between two quotes for what looks like the same product.
| Driver | What it does to the number |
|---|---|
| 1. grade | Sets the band. The yield difference above is the mechanism. |
| 2. packaging tier | Moves the number more than shape or volume. Bulk is the cheapest way to fill a container; printed inner boxes in a master carton is the most expensive. |
| 3. shape and size | Cube 25 mm and 26 mm are the baseline the price list is built on; extruded shapes cost more to produce and to pack. |
| 4. volume | Breaks exist at published thresholds. The reduction itself is agreed per order. |
4. Shape and size surcharges
Cube 25 mm and 26 mm are the standard the price list is built on. Fingers (stix), hexagonals, flats and the 22 mm cube take longer on the extrusion line and take up more space per box, so their packaging runs 10-20% higher.
Shape also changes how much fits in a container, which changes the price per ton of the delivered load: cube 25, 26, 27, 28 mm load 19.75 t in a 20ft with inner boxes against 18.5 t for hexagonal, finger (stix), flat, cube 22 mm.
5. Why this range sits above the figures you have seen
Aggregator listings and directory pages for Indonesian coconut charcoal commonly cluster around USD 1,100–1,400 per ton. That is a real range; it is usually quoting a different product on a different basis. The three things that most often explain the gap are the packaging tier the number assumes, the screening grade behind it, and whether the quote is FOB at all.
A bulk, single-screened, EXW-factory number and a printed-inner-box, multi-screened, FOB-loaded number are both honest prices for different things. Before treating any figure as comparable, normalise it:
how to compare two FOB quotes like-for-like
We do not argue that a cheaper factory is lying. We publish the basis and the mechanism so you can check which product a number is describing.
6. What the number does and does not include
The quoted figure is an FOB price: it ends when the container is loaded at Semarang. Export documentation, terminal handling at origin, the independent surveyor, stuffing, the origin dangerous-goods paperwork and the laboratory certificate of analysis and third-party lab report are inside it. Ocean freight and destination terminal handling are not.

7. From FOB to landed cost
An FOB price is not what the goods cost you in your warehouse. Between the two sit ocean freight and its Class 4.2 surcharge, destination port charges, customs duty, any recoverable import VAT, and brokerage and inland delivery. We can vouch for the FOB side and the tonnage; the rest comes from your forwarder and your broker.

8. Order size, payment and how long a price holds
Minimum order is one full container. Payment is 50% deposit with the balance against the bill of lading copy, no later than one week after the vessel departs; letters of credit at sight are accepted. The price is locked once the deposit is paid, and a written quote is valid 3 days.
9. How the range is kept current
The factory re-confirms the range weekly against its current price list. The date on this page is the date of the last confirmation, and the range carries a validity date — when a weekly review has not landed, the figures come off the page instead of going stale. Quotes are issued in USD and fixed against the rupiah at the rate on the date the proforma invoice is issued, which is why a quote holds for 3 days rather than a month.
A new quote is issued when either of these moves:
- a change in the raw shell price
- a move in the USD/IDR rate
Shell prices follow no strong seasonal pattern. They rise before Eid al-Fitr, at the end of Ramadan, when the holiday stops work for an extended period.
10. What this price is not
A few searches land here looking for something else, so to be explicit. "Coconut husk charcoal" is the same product under a wrong name — the briquette is pressed from the shell, not the husk, and there is no separate husk product to price. This is not barbecue lump charcoal, activated carbon or biochar, none of which we sell. It is not a retail price for a box of coals in a shop. And it is not the cost of building a charcoal factory or buying briquetting machinery; we are a producer, not an equipment supplier.
